TRIBUTE TO RON SCHULTZ, A COVINGTON ICON

Ron Schultz poses with Kelly Deeter after he won a state championship in track in 1983.

Covington has great people within the community and Ron Schultz is one who ranks at the highest level due to how much he has benefited so many people over the years.

Schultz, an honorary member of the Covington Athletic Hall of Fame, had a huge impact within the school system as he was an outstanding teacher for 30 years and coached so many sports for over 50 years – primarily golf, track, football and basketball. Over the years in track he helped two track teams finish state runner-up (1983 and 2018) and four boys and six girls win state championships (four of them on a relay).

In the sport of football his most successful year was in 1973 as an assistant coach as he helped the Buccaneers finish 10-0 and earn Class A State Champions by the Coaches Poll.

His favorite sport was golf and he built the boys and girls programs into strong traditions. The 1973 boys golf team was selected into the Covington Athletic Hall of Fame and so was his top golfer in school history, Ashley Johnson.

As a teacher, Ron Schultz was one of the most impactful instructors within Covington’s school for three decades and he had a huge impact within the community due to his contribution in the Covington Presbyterian Church over the past 50 years.

The loss of Ron Schultz due to his passing on Friday, November 14, 2025 is so heavy in the hearts of people within the community. Fortunately, he will be remembered greatly due to how much he benefited so many people throughout his life.
