The 1981 Lady Buccs won the program’s first every district championship. Coach by Kim Lakes-Morman, the Lady Buccs finished with a 19-8 overall record.
The 1989 season saw a Covington team reach the regional final for the first time in program history under coach Lonnie Cain. The Lady Buccs won a district title and finished with an 17-11 record on the season.
In 1993 the Lady Buccs won a district championship after overcoming a slow start to the season. During the season Covington won ten straight games and earned a share of the CCC (Cross County Conference) title.
The 1994 team compiled a program best 22 wins and was ranked 4th in the state. The Lady Buccs won the Cross County Conference championship with a perfect 11-0 league record and won a district title for the second straight year. Covington finished the season with a 22-2 record. Individually, Staci Short was named first team All-Ohio.
In 1995, the Lady Buccs captured their third straight district championship under coach Lonnie Cain and finished with a 21-5 record. Covington advanced to the regional final for the second time in school history, falling short of reaching the state tournament as the Lady Buccs fell to the top ranked team in the state, St. Henry.
LONNIE CAIN INDUCTED INTO OHSVCA HALL OF FAME
Legendary volleyball coach Lonnie Cain, who coached for 38 years and compiled 607 career wins (225 at Covington), was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association in March of 2024.
