Smith Field Stadium Upgrade Project
As part of the district’s strategic plan, the Board of Education has spent the last year planning an overdue replacement of the track surface along with a few strategic upgrades to the stadium to improve the athlete and fan experience, improve safety, ensure the longevity of our investments, and show off our community’s Bucc Pride!
Project Timeline
May 12, 2025 – Groundbreaking ceremony at 9:00 am. The community is cordially invited to attend.
May 26, 2025 – Demolition begins with removal of fencing and old track surface
June 2, 2025 – Installation of drainage system and concrete curbs, foundations, slabs & sidewalks
June 16, 2025 – Asphalt paving for the track base is overlaid and cures for three additional weeks.
June 23, 2025 – Masonry on the new entry gate and press box begins.
July 14, 2025 – Plumbing, mechanical and electrical begin rough-ins along with the installation of structural steel.
July 21, 2025 – Beynon begins new track installation.
July 28, 2025 – Roofing installation begins
August 4, 2025 – Interior finishes underway
August 18, 2025 – New signage installation
August 25, 2025 – Final punch list items
End of August 2025 – Project completion

Project Scope
Replacement Track Surface
The current track, installed in 1999, is well-past its expiration date and due for replacement to address hardening, cracking, and flooding. The all-weather replacement track surface will be a clay/red color and will provide our athletes with an impermeable shock-absorbing cushion.
Additionally, we will be adding a new track chute on the home side to allow for more efficient practice schedules for our JH & HS track teams and a better fan experience.

New Entry Gate
Attendees to events at Smith Field will be welcomed by a newly designed entry gate that proudly reflects our Bucc Pride!

Concession Stand Facelift
Attendees will find that the concession stand has a fresh new look, replacement doors, serving windows, and a brand new roof! We will also be adding additional lighting and improving the concrete around the building.
Total cost: $65,414
New Press Box
Our press box will be rebuilt from the ground up with new masonry walls, added storage, and additional signage to remind all of our fans (and visitors) that this is the Home of the Buccs!
Total cost: $253,078
Locker Room Roof
Smith Field locker rooms will receive an exterior refresh to extend their life. A new metal roof will be installed that matches the rest of the facility along with fascia, and new gutters/downspouts.

Site Upgrades
In addition to necessary site work to support the other renovations, Smith Field will be updated with new concrete sidewalks poured throughout the stadium. New black coated fencing will be installed both around the track and the perimeter of the facility. We will still maintain community access during daylight hours when the track is not in use by the schools! New sidewalks will also be added between the baseball fields and the visitors stands as we work to keep the facility accessible and minimize muddy patches.
Our track will receive a new 6″ concrete curb and additional upgrades to concrete bases for our pole vault, long jump, and high jump pits. Additional asphalt will also be laid down underneath the track to provide critical support and to extend the life of our new investment.

Design Build
Level MB is the design builder and is working as the construction manager on the Covington Schools stadium project. They not only designed the facility renovations but manage the sub-contractors to provide the Board of Education with a Greatest Maximum Price for each element of the project to ensure the project finishes within budget. They are paid a percentage of the project along with contingencies.
