COVINGTON – The 2026 Homecoming celebration was especially impressive because of how everything was organized from start to finish by Matt Langston, the high school student council adviser who coordinated the entire weekend.
The Homecoming Parade began at J.R. Clarke Library and traveled along East Walnut Street to Wenrick Street before continuing to East Maple Street and finishing at Smith Field. What made the parade route so enjoyable was that members of the Covington community were able to gather along the streets and watch the Covington students make their way through town.
The Homecoming Ceremony at Smith Field, held prior to the Buccaneers’ home football game against Bethel, was also extremely well organized. All of the students selected to the Homecoming Court were positioned properly on Smith Field so photographs could be taken throughout the ceremony.
When Trenton Havenar and Mary Larson were honored as Homecoming King and Queen, the entire Homecoming Court gathered in the proper location for photographs to capture the special moment.
The celebration continued Saturday with the Homecoming Dance at Covington High School. The music provided for the students made the evening especially enjoyable, as they danced throughout the night.
One of the highlights for the students came when several of them approached the DJ to request specific songs. The DJ played many of their requests, which made the evening even more enjoyable for everyone in attendance.
Overall, the entire Homecoming weekend provided Covington students with plenty of memorable moments and opportunities to have fun. Much of the success of the weekend was made possible through the planning and organization of Matt Langston.
