COVINGTON – The annual Homecoming Ceremony at Covington is organized to honor the students selected for the Homecoming Court and give members of the community an opportunity to recognize so many outstanding students.
The festivities begin with the Homecoming parade. Over the past few years, the route from the starting location to Smith Field was relatively short, traveling from Covington Schools to Smith Field along Walnut Street. In order to provide more space for community members to recognize the Homecoming Court and Covington students, the parade route has been expanded to cover more of the community.
The parade will start at the J.R. Clarke Public Library and travel east on East Walnut Street before heading north on Wenrick Street. The parade will then turn onto East Maple Street and continue toward Smith Field.
Fittingly, the Homecoming Court consists of Ramsé Vanderhorst, Mary Larson, Kylie Palsgrove, Cassidy Iddings, Ava Hartwig, Elijah Brooks, Filip McMaken, Trenton Havenar, Jordan Miller and Sam Helman.
The parade lineup at the J.R. Clarke Public Library begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2, and the parade will begin making its way toward Smith Field at 6:00 p.m. Once the parade concludes, the Homecoming Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Smith Field — 30 minutes before the critical football contest against Bethel.
The entire evening on Friday will hopefully be enjoyable for all Covington students and members of the community. The Homecoming festivities will continue on Saturday, October 3, with the Homecoming Dance at the school.
The dance begins at 8:00 p.m., and the Homecoming Court will be honored at 9:15 p.m.
