PIQUA – Track teams perform well at the Miami County Championships, which was highlighted by Day’Lynn Garrett breaking the school record in the long jump.

The Miami County meet was held at Alexander Stadium in Piqua on Tuesday evening and both track teams continued to make progress.

The night was filled with many personal records, but the highlight of the night was Day’Lynn Garrett’s school record in the long jump, which was the third school record set so far this year – the two others by Elyza Long. Day’Lynn jumped 21 feet 4.5 inches to take third in a highly competitive field.  The previous long jump record was set 49 years ago in 1976 by Doug Swartz, who jump 21 feet 2.5 inches. Day’Lynn was also County Champion in the 300 meter hurdles.

Other placers for the boys included Beck Wilson’s 6th place in the 800 run and 4th place finish in the 1600 meter run, 4×100 relay team placed 5th, and Preston King’s 5th place in the high jump.

The girls were led by seniors Elyza Long and Hannah Alexander. Hannah was County Champion in the discus and placed second in the shot put.  Other placers included Makayla Vanderhorst’s 5th place finish in the discus and a 6th place finish by the 4×100 team.
