
COLUMBUS – Five Buccaneer athletes competed well in the opening day at the state meet on Thursday and a senior advanced to the state finals, which continues tomorrow.
Day’Lynn Garrett finished second in the 110 meter hurdles prelims with the time of 15.01. His overall time was third in the prelims, which set himself up for a great opportunity in the finals.
The standout senior also finished second in the 300 meter hurdles prelims with a time of 39.13. It was also the top third time in the prelims and extends his opportunities to earn spots on the podium tomorrow.
The Buccaneers finished seventh in their 4×200 and 4×400 meter relays. In the 4×200 relay, Caylor Eastman, Day’Lynn Garrett, Trent Reynolds and Filip McMaken finished in the time of 1:31.68, which was very close to the school record of 1:31.23 set in 2018. Then, in the 4×400 meter relay, Caylor Eastman, Day’Lynn Garrett, Jordan Miller and Filip McMaken finished in the time of 3:31.59.
Filip McMaken competed in the high jump, but came up short from clearing the initial height of 6-0.
The finals begin tomorrow at 2:00pm.
