COVINGTON – Covington senior Maggie Anderson, the daughter of Danny and Brandy Anderson, committed to Indiana University East to extend her educational opportunities and advance her basketball skills to the collegiate level.

“It (Indiana University East) felt like home when I walked around the campus,” Anderson said. “I like the coaches and the atmosphere there.”

Maggie met up with her future collegiate coach Joe Griffin this past fall. Griffin, the head coach at Indiana University East, is thrilled that Anderson will be joining his basketball team.

“I love her as a person,” he said. “Her hard work, size, athletic ability and her talent is impressive.”

Griffin has high expectations for Anderson once she joins her Red Wolves teammates.

“I see her as a three or four because of her shooting,” Griffin explained. “She brings it into the post and her three-point shooting is good. Her competitiveness too, that will be nice.”

What also makes Maggie excited about playing at Indiana University East is that she already knows some of her future teammates.

“I know some of them because I played with them in AAU (Basketball),” she said.

Covington has been so blessed to see many great athletes have a huge impact in the programs they competed in over the years. So many of them advanced to college and had success at the collegiate level. Maggie Anderson is at the same level.

Although her high school career isn’t finished, Maggie has already established herself as an elite player in the sport of basketball as she has already became the 11th player in the history of the program to score 1000 career points. Anderson also set the school record for best free throw percentage in a season at 88.5% last year as a junior.

With the majority of her senior season still in the works, Maggie will add so much more to her legacy.

Her success is due to her extremely hard work throughout her entire high school career. She puts so much time in extra shooting and athletic training at No Name Athletics. Her work ethic has put her in position to advance to the collegiate level.

“God, my family and my work ethic is why,” said Maggie as to why she had an opportunity in college. “Plus, my coaches (Shawn and Ashley Naff) believe in me.”

Maggie’s goals at the collegiate level are the same as she was able to accomplish at the high school level.

“My goal is to be a better player every day,” she explained. “I want to have fun playing the game I love and help my teammates.”

Her goals are why Maggie Anderson is a special basketball player.

She will benefit Indiana University East.
