COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs played extremely hard against a very talented Russia team, but suffered their second loss of the season by the score of 47-39.
A huge credit goes out to Russia because the Lady Raiders implemented great defensive pressure for four periods. Russia rotated ten players in and out of the game and defended the Lady Buccs in full court pressure from start to finish.
Yet, the Lady Buccs battled extremely hard against a very talented team, which put themselves in position to hopefully capture a win against a tough team.
Unfortunately, Russia is extremely talented and executed offensively by moving the ball back and forth quickly to find open looks to the basket more often than not.
The Lady Raiders built a 13-9 lead after one and held on with a 21-19 lead at the break.
Even though the Lady Buccs played hard, Russia was able to push its lead to 36-29 with one period to play.
Covington senior Maggie Anderson, who scored a game-high 19 points, went all out in the final frame by scoring eight points, but the Lady Buccs were only able to put ten more points on the board down the stretch. Russia put up 11 points in the final frame to secure an eight-point win.
For Covington, Maggie Anderson finished with a game-high 19 points and junior Delaney Murphy scored 10 points. The rest of the lineup accumulated 10 points.
The loss drops Covington’s record to 4-2 at this point of the season. The Lady Buccs look to rebound on Saturday in a road contest against Lehman.
