COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs put so much effort on the floor for four periods, but suffered an unfortunate 60-59 loss against Northridge.
The Lady Buccs started off with a struggle early as Northridge built a 12-8 lead at the end of the first period, but Covington caught fire by scoring 20 points in the second to take a 28-22 lead at the break.
Covington followed up by building an 11-point lead midway through the third period, but Northridge was able to close the gap to 48-45 with one quarter to play.
What started affecting the Lady Buccs was foul trouble suffered by key players and Northridge was able to take a five-point lead until a three-pointer by Belle Batdorf and a layup by Emma Havenar tied the score. Unfortunately, the Lady Buccs missed out on several scoring opportunties down the stretch, primarily three missed shots in the final possession of the game.
There were so many situations where the Lady Buccs could have put so many more points on the board, but several missed layups and bunny shots, along with missing six out of 10 free throw attempts eventually led to the loss on the scoreboard.
Still, the Lady Buccs put in maximum effort throughout the game.
Emma Havenar, a freshman, led the Lady Buccs with 16 points, while Delaney Murphy and Bella Batdorf both scored 13 points.
Covington is now 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the TRC. Next up is the Holiday Tournament on the home floor next Monday and Tuesday.
