JACKSON CENTER – In a basketball game where both teams should have worn football pads, the Covington Lady Buccs suffered their first loss of the season to Jackson Center by the score of 42-29.

The overall difference in the game was the third period where Jackson Center scored ten straight points to open up the second half.

The first half was tight as Covington held a slim 6-5 lead after one and the host Jackson Center took a 15-13 lead at the break.

Unfortunately, the 20-9 scoring advantage in the third by Jackson Center put the Lady Buccs into dire straight.

Still, the Lady Buccs showed some grit by continuing to battle hard down the stretch despite some of the players suffering from illness. But, trailing 35-22 starting the fourth period was a difficult deficit to overcome.

Scoring wise, senior Maggie Anderson led the Lady Buccs with a game-high 17 points despite being mugged throughout the game by the Jackson Center defense. Unfortunately, Anderson fouled out midway through the fourth period.

The loss drops Covington’s record to 3-1 overall, but the Lady Buccs have some grit as a team and will look to rebound on Thursday at home against Bethel – a team who had defeated Jackson Center 39-22 in the season opener.
