COVINGTON – Covington improved its record to 12-2 on the season and 7-0 in the TRC with a 50-28 win over Riverside.

Every win is gratifying, but things didn’t go easy for Covington against Riverside. The game was physical and the shooting performance by the Lady Buccs wasn’t on the mark, especially from behind the three-point line. Overall, Covington only connected on one trey, which came in the second quarter by Maggie Anderson.

Fortunately, the Lady Buccs took advantage of every opportunity at the charity stripe by knocking down 11 of 11 free throws throughout the game.

Covington built a 14-10 lead after one as Riverside knocked down two of its three treys late in the opening frame to stay in contention.

The Lady Buccs pushed their lead to 25-16 at the break and 38-26 after three.

Covington closed out the game by outscoring Riverside 12-2 in the final frame to cap a 22-point victory.

With the way the game was played from a physical aspect, Carlie Besecker took advantage of the physical style by scoring a game-high 19 points. Maggie Anderson dropped in 15 points as well.

Next up for Covington is a huge matchup on Tuesday at Miami East, who is 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the TRC.
