WEST MILTON – The Lady Buccs suffered their fifth straight loss of the season, but the effort Covington gave against Milton-Union hopefully leads to future success.
Obviously, the Lady Buccs are still in the process of learning how to execute the new offensive strategy, but the way the girls showed progression in an unfortunate 54-45 loss to Milton-Union was impressive – especially in the second half.
The Lady Buccs struggled early by only scoring two baskets and two free throws in the opening frame, which led to a 15-7 deficit.
Covington found some offensive success in the second frame by scoring three three-pointers, two buckets inside the paint and two free throws, but the Bulldogs were able to hold a 31-22 lead at the break.
The 11-point deficit for Covington remained heading into the final frame, but the effort and toughness by the Lady Buccs ignited a possible comeback win as they closed the gap to 43-42 with 2:56 left in the fourth period. Unfortunately, after Milton-Union called a timeout, the Lady Bulldogs were able to knock down a three-pointer to go back up 46-42 and then held Covington throughout the remaining two minutes.
The Lady Buccs drop their overall record to 2-5 and 0-4 in the TRC, but have the potential for success as the season progresses.
