COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs showcased their progression on Thursday even though they suffered an unfortunate loss to Bethel, 48-35.
Earlier in the season the Lady Buccs lost to Bethel 57-24 and the way the entire team played on the home floor in front of hometown fans displayed how much of improvement has materialized with seven more games heading throughout the rest of the regular season.
The only quarter the Lady Buccs struggled putting ideal buckets in the basket was the second period where just three points were scored – points scored by a basket and a free throw by Bella Batdorf.
Still, Covington played extremely hard throughout the game despite trailing 19-13 at the end of the first quarter and 25-16 at the break. The effort put the Lady Buccs into a potential winning position as they closed the gap to four points in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Bethel was able to hold off the Lady Buccs down the stretch to close out a 13-point victory.
For Covington, Avery Koffer led the team with 13 points, while Bella Batdorf scored 9 points, Delaney Murphy had 8 points, Emma Havenar had 3 points and Stevi Newhouse scored 2 points.
There were others Lady Buccs who didn’t manage to score points, but the effort they gave defensively and making ideal passes to teammates put the team in ideal situations.
Covington is now 5-10 overall and 2-8 in the TRC, but this team is making strides for improvement. Hopefully it leads to future success in the next game on Saturday at Northridge.
