COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs opened up the 2023-24 season with an impressive victory over Fairlawn in a dominating fashion where the final score ended up 55-19.
And it was the Anderson sisters, Maggie and Gracie, who sparked the Lady Buccs to a fast start as the duo combined to score 21 of the 23 points in the opening frame where Covington built a 23-6 lead.
Maggie finished the game with a game-high 24 points where she knocked down four treys, four two-point buckets and went four-for-four from the free throw line. while Gracie finished with 12 points, all coming on four three-pointers. The duo combined for 36 points, all coming in three quarters of play as the Lady Buccs pulled the starters in the final frame.
Overall, Covington made ten treys, ten two-point buckets and converted on five of ten free throws.
It was an overall solid team performance for Covington as several players contributed as well at the offensive end with 19 points.
Covington also was very strong at the defensive end as it limited open looks at the basket for Fairlawn. The Jets tallied just 19 point with 15 coming on three-pointers as Covington controlled the game inside the paint.
The Lady Buccs pushed their lead to 45-14 at the break and outscored Fairlawn 10-5 in the final two quarters under a running clock.
With a strong performance to start off the season, Covington (1-0) looks to build on the confidence on Monday at Troy.
