PIQUA – Covington had a tough night against a gritty Piqua basketball team, but was able to sneak away with a 40-36 victory.

The Lady Buccs struggled early in the game as they only managed two baskets in the opening quarter – a three-pointer by Avery Koffer and a layup by Delaney Murphy. Fortunately, the defensive pressure by the Lady Buccs kept the team in contention by holding Piqua to seven points in the same frame.

Piqua then pushed its lead to 18-15 the break, but the Lady Buccs were able to take a 34-29 lead at the end of the third period. The player who ignited the offense for Covington was junior Bella Batdorf as she score 11 points in the third period on three treys and a two-point bucket.

Covington went cold offensively in the final frame, but the key offensive play was a layup made by Delaney Murphy in the final stretch to seal the victory.

Bella Batdorf, led the Lady Buccs with 13 points, while Avery Koffer scored 11 points and Delaney Murphy finished with 10 points.

Covington is now 2-0 in the start of the season and has a huge matchup at Miami East on Saturday for the first league contest.
