COVINGTON – In the opening night of the Buccaneer Holiday Tournament, the Lady Buccs put forth an impressive performance in a 49-14 victory over Franklin Monroe. Tomorrow night the Lady Buccs play Arcanum in the finals.

Covington took control early by taking a 17-3 lead at the end of the first period and pushed the lead to 34-6 at the break. The key for success was the aggressiveness of the defense that made it difficult for Franklin Monroe to get open looks at the basket.

With a comfortable lead in the second half, Covington was able to allow the entire roster to have opportunities on the floor. Still, the Lady Buccs outscored Franklin Monroe 15-8 in the second half to close out an enjoyable victory.

There are still situations the Lady Buccs need to improve on, especially on the offensive side of the floor. There were several close shots to the basket that were missed and Covington also struggled at the free throw line by connecting on just three out of 11 attempts.

The successful part for the offense was that seven players scored points. Delaney Murphy led the Lady Buccs with a game-high total of 13 points and Emma Havenar scored 12 points.

Covington is now 4-6 at this point of the season.
