TECUMSEH – The Covington Lady Buccs had their magical season end in an unfortunate way in the three-point loss to Legacy Christian, 35-32.

Before the ball was tossed into the air to start the game, the Lady Buccs were already under their full roster as two players were out of the game – a key starter Delaney Murphy due to the flu and a gritty player who was injured in the first tournament game, Stevi Newhouse.

This put the Lady Buccs into a tough situation as there were not many situations for the players to get a break to catch their breath.

Still, the Lady Buccs played extremely hard throughout the entire game, even when calls didn’t go their way. The effort and toughness the girls put forth on the floor was very impressive.

The game was tight from start to finish as Covington held a 9-7 lead after one and a 15-13 lead at the break. The Lady Buccs extended their lead to 26-21 at the end of the third, but Legacy Christian outscored the Lady Buccs 14-6 in the final frame. Covington did have opportunities down the stretch to capture a win, but shots didn’t drop through the hoop in critical situations.

The most painful part of the defeat was it was the final game of the high school careers for seniors Maggie Anderson and Gabrielle Hartwig. Maggie Anderson is highly ranked as one of the premier players in the history of the program as she closed out her career with 1330 points, which is sixth in the Lady Buccs’ history.

Covington closed out its season with an impressive 21-3 record.
