SIDNEY – The Covington Lady Buccs improve to 2-0 with a convincing 52-28 win over Fairlawn on Saturday.

The game was a battle early as the Lady Buccs held a slim 20-16 lead at the break, but things turned quickly in the third quarter as Covington outscored the Lady Jets 20-10 in the period to take over the momentum.

Much of the success was due to the scoring success of senior Maggie Anderson and sophomore Emalyn Johnson, who combined to score 18 of the 20 points put on the scoreboard by the Lady Buccs in the third period.

Covington closed out the game by outscoring Fairlawn 11-2 in the final frame to seal the 24-point victory.

Maggie Anderson led Covington with a game-high 23 points, while Emalyn Johnson scored 9 points and Gabrielle Hartwig had 8 points. Plus, Delaney Murphy, Avery Koffer and Kylie Palsgrove contributed as well on the offensive end as they combined for 11 points.

Much like the victory over Piqua in the season opener, the difference was the overall effort by the Lady Buccs on defense. The pressure made it difficult for Fairlawn to score as many points needed to stay in contention down the stretch.

Next up for Covington is a road trip to Northridge next Tuesday to open the TRC schedule.
