COVINGTON – The Village of Covington did what it could in reaching out to residents to provide information on Boil Advisory due to the amount of rain that has fell over the past few days. Fortunately, the Boil Advisory was lifted in the morning on Sunday, August 6th.

A boil water notice is issued by water utilities or health agencies as a precaution to protect consumers from drinking water that may have been contaminated with disease causing organisms. During a boil water notice, it is generally advised to avoid using tap water for drinking, cooking, or brushing your teeth because it may contain harmful bacteria or contaminants.

HERE IS A NOTICE FROM THE VILLAGE OF COVINGTON

4/05/2025 – URGENT: The entire Village of Covington Water Distribution System is on a Boil Advisory.

We will update with more information as soon as possible.

During the boil advisory, use either commercially bottled water or boil your tap water.

Bring water to a full rolling boil for 1 minute. To avoid burns, allow boiled water to cool before using. Please boil your water even if you filter it in your home.

UPDATE: 4/05/2025 @ 12:04 PM: The Village of Covington Water Distribution System remains on a Boil Advisory. This Boil Advisory was put in place out of an abundance of caution for those who utilize the water system.

The extremely high amount of rain and runoff caused a potential intrusion into the Water System. Our Water Department staff have collected water samples and they are being tested by the EPA certified lab at the City of Troy. The results for these tests will not be available until late Sunday morning. The Boil Advisory will remain in place until negative test results are received.

Employees of the Village of Covington’s Utilities, Public Works, and Police Departments have been working on this issue non-stop for the past several hours. We will continue to monitor the situation over the next day until the test results return and the heavy rains move out of the area.

APRIL 6, 2025: BOIL ADVISORY IS LIFTED

The Village of Covington Water Distribution System is no longer under a Boil Advisory. All samples were returned with negative results.

The Village is evaluating the cause of the incident and working to prevent this matter from occurring in the future.

We apologize for the major inconvenience that this has caused, but appreciate your understanding and patience over the last 24+ hours.

The Village of Covington would like to thank employees of our Utilities, Public Works, and Police Departments for their hard work in evaluating, fixing, and monitoring the situation.
