CASSTOWN – Covington had a great performance in the TRC Championships at Miami East High School with four athletes leading the way by winning a combined 8 championships in events – Day’Lynn Garrett (3), Elyza Long (2), Hannah Alexander (2) and Preston King (1).
In the team standings, the girls finished 3rd with 99 points and the boys finished 4th with 92.50 points.
For the girls, seniors Elyza Long and Hannah Alexander had great performances as both won league championships in individual events. Elyza Long won the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:18.81, which set a meet record, and won the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:09.29. She also finished second in the 800 meter run and was a member of the 4×800 relay team with Mary Larson, Bella Welch and Ramse Vanderhorst that finished fourth.
Hannah Alexander won the league championship in the shot put with a throw of 30-11.25 and the discus with a distance of 104-08.
For the boys, junior standout Day’Lynn Garrett had a great performance as he won league championships in three events and finished eighth in the 200 meter dash. He won the long jump with a distance of 20-9.75, the 110 meter hurdles with a meet record time of 15.32 and the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.53.
Preston King, a senior, won the league championship in the high jump with a meet record height of 6-4.
