COVINGTON COMPETES AT BOB SCHUL INVITE

WEST MILTON – The Covington cross country teams competed in the Bob Schul Invitational in West M<ilton on Saturday to open up the 2024 season.

The girls finished 10th out of 26 teams with a total score of 341. Eliza Long finished third with a time of 20:09.0, while Kassidy Turner finished 87th (24:35.8), Lucy Welborn 112th (25:38.9), Willow Pellman 130th (26:42.2) and Bella Welch 133rd (26:52.4).

The boys team finished 12th out of 40 teams with a score of 349 with the highest finisher being Beck Wilson at 16th with a time of 17:05.5. Christopher Eaton finished 45th with a time of 18:07.2, Calub Hembree 110th (19:21.5), Preston King 111th (19:25.1) and Henry Skaggs 145th (20:07.8).

The entire event was honored to Bob Schul, who passed away in June at the age of 86. Schul was a legendary runner in the United States as he was the only American Olympian to win the 5000-meter gold medal in history. Schul won the Gold Medal in 1964 in Tokyo.
