SIDNEY – Covington defeated Troy Christian 56-33 in the second round of the sectional tournament to set up a showdown with Russia.

This was the third time this season the Lady Buccs beat Troy Christian, previously by the scores of 70-47 and 57-25.

Covington started out fast by taking a 15-4 lead after one and a 27-10 lead at the break.

The trend continued in the second half as the Lady Buccs built a 41-19 lead at the end of the third thanks to a three-pointer at the buzzer by Delaney Murphy.

With the game well in hand, the Lady Buccs outscored Troy Christian 15-14 in the final frame to cruise to a 23-point victory.

Delaney Murphy led the Lady Buccs with a game-high 23 points and Maggie Anderson dropped in 15 points.

Covington made 20 two-point buckets, three treys and was also 7 of 12 from the free throw line.

The Lady Buccs play Russia at 6:00pm on Monday at Sidney High School.
