COVINGTON – Saturday was a memorable day for the Covington Lady Buccs as senior Carlie Besecker scored her 1000th career point in a 70-43 win over Bradford in the consolation final of the Buccaneer Holiday Classic. Besecker is now the tenth player in the history of the program to surpass 1000 career points.
Entering the game, Besecker needed 11 points to reach the milestone and connected on her 1000th career point on a short jumper late in the first quarter. A timeout was called to honor her accomplishment with the game ball being given to her as the crowd stood with an applause.
Besecker scored 12 of her game-high 19 points in the opening frame to help Covington build a 24-9 lead after one.
The Lady Buccs controlled the entire contest by building a 48-22 lead at the break, a 59-35 lead after three and cruising to a 27-point win.
To go along with Besecker’s 19 points, Maggie Anderson had 16 points, while Gracie Anderson and Delaney Murphy both finished with 11 points each.
Bradford freshman Vivian Harleman had a great game by leading the Lady Railroaders with 16 points and senior Brooklyn Crickmore has 12 points.
The victory improves Covington’s record to 10-2 on the season and the Lady Buccs will host Riverside next Saturday.
