SIDNEY – The Covington Lady Buccs put forth a solid performance in the opening game of the postseason tournament by defeating Riverside in three sets.
The scores in Covington’s three-set victory over Riverside were 25-18, 25-14 and 25-10.
“We were preparing for Riverside to keep the ball alive and to stay patient for long rallies, which is what was asked of us tonight,” mentioned Covington coach Sloane Green. “I thought we did a great job of managing that while maintaining good energy and effort.”
What also made the evening so enjoyable was the school record broken by Ramsé Vanderhorst for the most digs recorded in a single season. The previous record was set by Ashley Cecil in 2016 with 466 digs.
Ramsé entered the game with 461 digs throughout the season and accumulated approximately 20 more digs against Riverside. Her official total of digs will be finalized once the coaching staff reviews the film from the match.
Ava Hartwig and Kylie Palsgrove also had outstanding performances as they combined for 28 kills — 16 by Hartwig and 12 by Palsgrove. In addition, sophomore Madelyn Batdorf recorded eight kills, while freshman Mikayla Jacomet contributed four kills.
“We get to see Jackson Center for the second time this season next week,” Coach Green explained. “We are excited for the opportunity to continue our season!”
Covington’s matchup against Jackson Center is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, at 5:30 p.m. at Piqua High School.
