BRANDT – The Covington Buccaneers struggled to put the ball inside the hoop throughout much of the game, which led to an unfortunate 21-point loss to Bethel on Friday.
Defensively, the Buccaneers started off the game very well as they made it hard for Bethel to score consistently in the first quarter. Unfortunately, Covington only connected on one field goal and two free throws in the first quarter even though there were several open shot attempts.
Bethel led 8-4 at the end of the first quarter, but caught fire in the second period due to four three-pointers that ignited a total of 16 points. The Buccaneers managed to score 10 points in the second quarter, but trailed 24-14 at the half.
The Bees pushed their lead to 39-24 heading into the final frame and closed out the game by outscoring the Buccs 15-9 in the fourth period.
The loss drops Covington’s record to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the TRC with another tough battle coming against Northridge on Tuesday. Fortunately the game will be played in Covington.
