WEST MILTON – The Covington Buccaneers are playing better later in the season, but suffered an unfortunate loss to Milton-Union by the score of 48-31.

Brairen Denson started off the game with a three-pointer, but the Buccaneers struggled putting points on the board midway through the first period as Milton-Union took a 13-4 lead. Fortunately, the Buccaneers scored seven straight points to close the gap to 13-11 heading into the second period.

The Bulldogs outscored the Buccs 10-5 in the remaining first half to push the lead to 23-16 at the break and then pushed its lead to 39-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Buccaneers had an opportunity to overcome the deficit in the fourth quarter, but failed to take advantage of opportunities. This led to the Bulldogs controlling a 17-point win.

“We just did not play well at all,” explained Covington coach Logan Carey, who is trying hard to establish a culture of toughness. “I just felt like we were lacking energy and couldn’t find our groove offensively or defensively. Felt like we were steps slow and thinking too much. Once we get to thinking, we were already behind. We had been playing well, but gotta regroup now for Tuesday.”

The. Buccaneers now have a 3-14 record at this point of the season and are 3-8 in the TRC. On Tuesday the Buccaneers host Newton.
