WEST MILTON – Even though the Covington Buccaneers suffered a very close 5-4 loss to Milton-Union, the entire team put forth outstanding determination from start to finish.
Unfortunately, the Buccaneers lost due to a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Milton-Union got on the board in the first inning after Mike Riquelme singled, which scored one run. The Bulldogs then added two runs in the third. Gauge McKee singled to the left side of the infield on a 3-0 count, making the score 3-0.
After eventually falling behind 4-1, Covington’s determination was on display in the top of the seventh thanks to a double by Finn Rogers, a double by Colton Goins, and a single by James Kuether. This led to a 4-4 tie heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Christian Skaggs took the loss for the Buccs. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing one run (zero earned) on one hit, striking out one and walking none. Caleb Smith stepped on the mound first for Covington and the starting pitcher gave up eight hits and four runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one.
Finn Rogers went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Covington with hits.
Covington is now 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the TRC with Minster on the schedule next Monday at home.
