THE BUCCS RECORD A DOMINATING WIN OVER TROY CHRISTIAN

TROY – The Covington Buccaneers captured a huge win over Troy Christian on Tuesday by defeating the Eagles 12-2 in five innings.

The Buccs built an 8-0 lead until the Eagles were able to score one run in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Buccs responded with four runs in the top of the fifth and held the Eagles to just one run in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the run-rule victory.

Ashton Skaggs collected three hits in four at bats. He singled in the second inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the first inning.

The Buccs opened the scoring in the first after Brairen Denson singled, scoring one run. Covington then added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Ashton Skaggs singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.

Covington increased its early lead to 6-0 in the top of the third inning after Troy Christian committed an error, and Christian Skaggs walked, each scoring one run.

Tyler Jay earned the win for Covington on the mound. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking none.

Covington tallied 12 hits in the game and surrendered just three hits to the Eagles.

Kian French and Ashton Skaggs each collected three hits for Covington. Tanner Palsgrove led the Buccaneers with three runs batted in. Covington stole four bases in the game and were sure-handed in the field by not committing a single error. Hunter McMillion had the most chances in the field with four.

The Buccs have now won four straight games and six out of the last eight contests. Covington improves to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the TRC. Next up is a road game at Bethel on Thursday.
