THE BUCCS RECORD A COMEBACK WIN OVER RIVERSIDE

COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers overcame a 4-0 deficit against Riverside by scoring eight runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-4 victory.

The bottom of the lineup helped the Covington Buccs capture an 8-4 victory over Riverside Pirates on Tuesday. Finn Rogers, Garrett Leistner and Tyler Palsgrove combined for four of the team’s eight hits in the victory. They scored two runs and drove in three.

Covington came back to win despite trailing 4-0 in the third.

Riverside got on the board in the top of the first inning after Gavin Orsborne singled down the left field line Aidden Manning hit a sacrifice fly, and Hayden McCully grounded out, each scoring one run.

An error by the Buccs extended the Pirates’ lead to 4-0 in the top or the third inning.

Covington flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth by scoring eight runs on seven hits to take the lead, 8-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a ground out by Tyler Palsgrove that drove in two runs.

Brairen Denson earned the win on the mound for Covington. The righty gave up two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one.

Ashton Skaggs stepped on the hill first for Covington and surrendered two hits and four runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking two.

Finn Rogers and Garrett Leistner were a force together in the lineup as they each collected two hits for Covington. Finn Rogers, Tanner Palsgrove, Kian French, Garett Leistner, Brairen Denson, Tyler Jay, and Tyler Palsgrove each drove in one run. Kian French led Covington with two walks.

Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game.

Defensively, Covington turned one double play in the game.

The Buccaneers are now 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the TRC.

Next up for Covington is a game against Miami East on Thursday.
