
COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers scored seven runs in their final two at bat innings to cap a 10-2 victory over Northridge on Tuesday.
The Buccaneers had opportunities to break the game open early with bases loaded, but only held on to a 3-1 lead through the first four innings. Two of the runs by the Buccaneers came on pause balls at the plate.
Things changed quickly in the bottom of the fifth as Covington scored four runs to take a 7-1 lead and then the Buccaneers sealed the game with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Brairen Denson picked up the win on the mound as he struck out 11 batters and allowed just four hits. He also led the Buccs with two hits in four at bats.
Tanner Palsgrove, Caiden Hollingsworth, Colton Goins, Kian French, Ashton Skaggs, Brairen Denson, and Tyler Palsgrove each drove in one run for the Buccs. Covington had patience at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Tyler Jay and Tyler Palsgrove led the team with two bases on balls each. Tanner Palsgrove and Tyler Jay each stole multiple bases. Covington ran wild on the base paths, amassing seven stolen bases for the game.
The Buccaneers outhit the Polar Bears 8 to 4 and only committed one error defensively.
The Buccs are now 7-7 overall and 6-4 in the TRC. Next up is a road game at Milton-Union tomorrow.
