DAYTON – The Buccaneers had things going their way in the first half on Tuesday, but missed opportunities at the free throw line cost Covington in the second half of a 76-59 loss to a very athletic Northridge team.
The Buccs trailed 21-19 after one, but outscored the visiting Polar Bears 16-11 in the second period to take a 35-32 lead the the break. The success was due to balanced scoring as five players contributed to the first half points – 10 by Bryson Hite, 10 by Brogen Angle, 6 by Britton Miller, 4 by Mic Barhorst and 3 by Connor Humphrey.
Things changed in the second half as the Buccaneers struggled hitting from the floor and at the free throw line. Covington made just seven field goals and converted on 10 of 25 free throws in the second half.
This gave Northridge all the momentum it needed to pull out a 15-point win.
Despite the second half offensive struggles, four Buccaneers scored in double figures with Britton Miller leading the way with 18 points. Brogen Angle scored 14, while Connor Humphrey and Bryson Hite had 10 points each.
The loss drops Covington to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the TRC with a big game against Milton-Union coming up on Friday.
