COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers showed a lot of passion and enthusiasm, despite suffering a heartbreaking loss in nine inning to Troy Christian.

The final score of 9-0 wasn’t a reflection of how competitive this game was for both teams because the game went into extra innings with the score tied at 0-0 at the end of the seventh.

The Buccaneers had opportunities to capture a victory, but just wasn’t able to put together in the final play needed to put a runner across the plate. The biggest opportunity came in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Buccaneers had runners at second and third. Unfortunately a strikeout ended the inning and Troy Christian put the game away by scoring nine runs in the top of the ninth inning.

The Buccaneers played well up to that point as senior hurler Tyler Jay struck out 14 batters, allowed just five hits and no runs through eight innings. His pitching performance was phenomenal and well deserved to earn a win. Unfortunately the Buccaneers couldn’t find a way to put a runner across the plate.

The loss drops the early season record to 0-2, but the Buccaneers played with a lot of passion, enthusiasm and emotion throughout the entire game. If the Buccs continue to play this way throughout the season there will be success.
