COVINGTON – In the final home game of the season, the Covington Lady Buccs put together a great performance in a 60-33 win over Riverside – a win that secured the league championship in the TRC.

“We just clinched the outright TRC title,” said Covington coach Shawn Naff. “This is Covington’s first girls outright title since 2006. We broke the 1996 team record for consecutive wins. 1996 was 14 wins and we just won our 15th straight.”

The Lady Buccs also shared the league title with Bethel in 2022 and this year is the ninth time in the history of the program Covington has either won the league title outright, or shared it with another team.

The Lady Buccs dominated throughout the majority of the game as they led 14-8 after one, 34-18 at the break and 53-26 at the end of the third. The game was pretty much sealed for a victory, so the entire roster was given time on the floor throughout the rest of the game.

The outcome was mostly gratifying for seniors Maggie Anderson and Gabrielle Hartwig due to this being their final game of their careers on the home floor.

Anderson led the Lady Buccs with a game-high 22 points. Emalyn Johnson, who started off fast by scoring 10 points in the first period, finished with 12 points. Delaney Murphy also scored double digits with 10 points.

Covington improves its record to 19-2 overall and 13-0 in the TRC. The Lady Buccs close out the regular season on Thursday at Miami East.
