COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs celebrated “Senior Night” on Saturday by honoring their two seniors Erika Gostomsky and Meg Rogers with a convincing 44-17 victory over Lehman Catholic.

In the process the Lady Buccs put together their most impressive defensive performance of the season by limiting Lehman to just five field goals throughout the entire contest.

“Our defense played great today,” said Covington coach Shawn Naff. “Our senior plated amazing. Meg (Rogers) and Erika (Gostomsky) are amazing people and teammates.”

Covington opened the game with a 10-4 lead on a pair of three-pointers by Gracie Anderson and Maggie Anderson, along with a runner by freshman Delaney Murphy. Murphy, who ran the point in place of injured teammate Avery Koffer, put together another great effort at both ends of the floor.

The Anderson sisters connected on two three pointers in the second followed by a bucket by Erika Gostomsky and a stick back bay Maggie Anderson to push Covington’s lead to 20-8 at the break.

The third period was much the same as the Anderson sisters continued to ignite the Lady Buccs. Gracie scored nine points in the frame, while Maggie connected on a free throw and dropped in a trey at the buzzer to increase Covington’s advantage to 33-12 at the end of the third.

With the game well in hand, Covington emptied its bench in the fourth by rotating players in and out of the lineup. The Lady Buccs still outscored Lehman 11-5 to seal a 27-point victory.

The Anderson sisters combined to score 33 of Covington’s 44 points as Gracie finished with a game-high 17 points and Maggie tallied 16 points.

It wasn’t just the points put up that reflected how much impact the rest of the roster had on the game. Overall, it was one of the best overall team effort the Lady Buccs has had this season.

Covington improves its record to 11-8 overall and 8-4 in the TRC. The Lady Buccs host Riverside on Thursday in the final home game of the season.
