COVINGTON – There are so many people who have had a huge impact on the Covington Community and one of those was Jon Eshleman, who passes away at the age of 82 on September 24th.

Over the years every Covington athlete knew Big Jon due to his consistent support of Buccaneer Athletics. Big Jon attended the majority of Covington’s sporting events until his health became an issue a few years ago. Still, his love and passion for the Covington Buccaneers never declined, which he stated on two days when the Covington volleyball team and football team visited him and other residents at the Stillwater Nursing and Rehab facility in Covington a month ago in August.

Throughout the time Big Jon showed his Buccaneer support, it always seemed like he sat as close as he possibly could to the game action. At basketball games, he sat in the front row in the stands and at football games and track meets, he stood along the fence or sat in the front row of the bleachers. Plus, at baseball and softball games, he sat behind the backstop in the bleachers. His voice was always heard in good and bad situations, where he would congratulate the players for great plays or question officials for bad calls that hurt the Buccs.

Big Jon also had a huge impact on the Covington Community through his hard work over 27 years in the Village of Covington’s Street Department. While he was doing his job, many student/athletes and residents would see him and say “Hi” as they drove by. Big Jon always had a great response by waving with a smile on his face.

THANK YOU BIG JON for your contributions and great impact on the Covington Community!
