BUCCS WON THEIR SECOND STRAIGHT GAME

COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers, which is a relatively young team, won their second straight game with a 4-3 victory over Houston to improve their overall record to 7-9 at this point of the season.

Yesterday the Buccaneers defeated Troy Christian 10-9 to even up their league record at 5-5. In that game Brairen Denson drove in four runs on two hits to lead Covington past the Eagles. Brairen Denson tripled in the sixth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the fifth inning, scoring one.

Despite falling down by four runs in the seventh inning, Troy Christian tried to fight back. The Eagles closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a single, and a single.

Troy Christian opened the scoring in the second after Charlie Byrer doubled, scoring one run. For Covington, Caiden Hollingsworth doubled, which helped the Buccs tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Troy Christian broke up the tie when Charlie Byrer tripled, scoring two runs. Then a single by Curnes followed to extend the lead to 4-1.

Covington flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Brairen Denson that drove in three.

Brairen Denson earned the win for Covington as the pitcher. He surrendered five hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Christian Skaggs collected the save.

In the win over Troy Christian, Covington piled up 12 hits in the game. Tyler Palsgrove went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Buccs in hits. Finn Rogers and Christian Skaggs each collected multiple hits for Covington. Tyler Palsgrove stole two bases. Covington ran wild on the base paths, piling up four stolen bases for the game. Covington Varsity Buccs turned one double play in the game.

In the home contest against Houston, Covington built a 4-run lead in the second inning and then held off the Wildcats’s charge for a 4-3 victory on Friday. Houston closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a single, and a walk.

Starting the game, Covington got on the board in the first inning after an error scored two runs. Then, a double by Brairen Denson extended the Covington’s lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Caleb Smith, an outstanding senior pitcher, earned the win for Covington on the mound. He gave up seven hits and one run over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Caiden Hollingsworth collected the save for the Buccs.

Brairen Denson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Covington with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Finn Rogers, Christian Skaggs, Hunter McMillion, and Brairen Denson each collected one hit for the Buccs. Covington was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Colton Goins had the most chances in the field with 12.

The way the Buccaneers are progressing throughout the season is extremely impressive as the entire roster is putting forth so much intensity to make the entire team successful. Hopefully this leads to a memorable season down the stretch.

Covington will welcome New Bremen on Monday for their next game.
