DAYTON – The Covington Buccaneers played well against a very talented and athletic Northridge team on Friday, but a rough third period was the difference in a 73-51 defeat.
The Buccaneers trailed 16-9 after one, but battled their way back by outscoring Northridge 14-10 in the second to close the gap to 26-23 at the break. For the Buccs, Britton Miller scored 13 of his team-high 21 points in the first have.
Covington was able to put 12 points on the board in the third, but Northridge got red hot from the floor by scoring 28 points to take a 54-37 lead with one period to play.
Even after a rough third period, the Buccaneers never relented and hung close with the Polar Bears the rest of the way – only being outscored 19-16 in the final frame.
Although Covington dropped its record to 5-10 overall and 2-7 in the TRC with a loss, the never-quit mentality was on display and something that will hopefully lead to success throughout the remainder of the season.
Next up for Covington is a non-conference game at Ansonia tomorrow night.
