BUCCS LOSE TO NEWTON 67-64

COVINGTON – Covington suffered a frustrating 67-64 loss to neighboring rival Newton on Tuesday in non-conference action, which drops the Buccaneers’ record to 3-7 on the season.

Newton built a 15-9 lead after one, but Covington was able to battle back by outscoring the Indians 13-7 in the second period to tie the score at 22-22 at the break.

The Buccaneers were able to heat up offensively in the second have, but struggled defensively by surrendering a combined 45 points in the final two periods. This led to a 43-40 lead for Newton after three and a 67-64 loss for the Buccs.

Offensively, Covington made 18 two-point buckets, five three-pointers and were 13 of 17 from the free throw line. Newton made 17 two-point shots, seven treys and connected on 14 of 24 free throws.

Brogen Angle and Britton Miller both scored 24 points for Covington, while Bryson Hite had 12. The remaining players on the roster only managed a combined 4 points.

Covington travels to Miami East on Friday in a critical TRC matchup.
