COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers hosted the annual Buccaneer FOE 3998 Invitational on Saturday at the Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles Picnic Grounds with 13 schools participating in the event.
And the Buccaneers had a big day as both the boys and girls high school teams had individual champions in Asher Long and Elyza Long, while both teams finished second in the team standings.
Sophomore Elyza Long started the morning off by finishing first in the time of 20:29.1, edging out Arcanum’s Brooklyn Miras’ time of 20:34.0. Covington’s Johanna Welborn finished fifth in a time of 21:37.9.
Buccaneer junior Asher Long had a huge day as he dominated the high school boys race with a winning time of 16:29.3. His time was over a minute faster than the second place finisher Brayden Monnin of Russia, who clocked in at 17:46.7.
In the junior high races, the Covington boys finished 5th as a team with Landon Reynolds finishing win 12th place to lead the Buccs, while the girls finished 5th and Lucy Welborn leading the way by placing ninth.
