COVINGTON – The Buccaneers suffered an 84-34 loss to Northridge on Tuesday, but the score wasn’t a reflection of the effort Covington gave against a very talented team.
Northridge is obviously the best team the Buccaneers have played so far this season. The talent throughout the entire rosters is impressive, which was evident as 12 players for the Polar Bears scored throughout the game.
Still, the Buccaneers gave their best effort so far this season – especially in the first half. This effort led to the hometown crowd supporting the team.
Northridge started off with an 8-0 lead, but the Buccaneers batted back trying make the score closer. What ignited the Buccaneers was a slam dunk by sophomore Brant Angle midway through the first period.
Covington closed the gap to 19-12 at the end of the first quarter and also scored 12 more points in the second quarter, but Northridge’s talented players began pulling the game away by scoring 26 more points to take a 45-24 lead at the half.
The Polar Bears then adjusted their defensive pressure and outscored the Buccaneers 39-10 in the second half, which closed out the 50-point loss for Covington.
Landin Cassel led Covington with 15 points and Brant Angle played well with nine points.
Covington is now 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the TRC with the next game scheduled at home this Saturday against Milton-Union.
