CASSTOWN – In the final regular season game, the Covington Buccaneers put themselves in position to capture a win against Miami East, but unfortunately came up short in a 57-55 loss.

Covington’s senior Brogen Angle put together an amazing game as he scored 35 of the 55 points put on the board for the Buccs. Angle knocked down so many big shots throughout the game and also had a huge impact on the defensive side of the court.

Brogen Angle set the tone early as he scored 15 points in the first half to help Covington build a 17-12 lead after one and a 30-24 lead at the break. He then went to another level in the second half as he scored 20 more points – all but five points put up by Covington in the second half.

The Buccaneers pushed their lead to nine points midway through the third period, but Miami East went on an 11-0 run to take its first lead of the game. From that point on the leading score went back-and-forth throughout the rest of the game.

Trailing 57-55 with under 10 seconds left, the Buccaneers had one more opportunity to at least tie the game and send it into overtime. Unfortunately, one shot was blocked and landing the hands of another Buccaneer and the final shot bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

Covington closes out its regular season with a 6-16 record and ends the year in the TRC at 0-14. The Buccs start the state tournament on Tuesday, February 25th at Troy against Troy Christian or Calvary Christian.
