BUCCS DEFEAT RIVERSIDE IN TRC ACTION

COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers improved their record to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the TRC with an impressive 4-2 win over Riverside on Tuesday.

After a scoreless first inning the Buccs plated three runs in the second and another run in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

In the second, Grant Blore double to left to score Carter Owens and then Tyler Jay singles to center to score Connor Humphrey and Grant Blore.

In the third, Grant Blore doubled to left to score Carter Owens.

Riverside was able to close the gap with a pair of runs on an error by Covington in the top of the fourth, but the Buccaneers were able to hold the Pirates in check throughout the final three innings to preserve a 4-2 win.

Both teams tallied five hits in the contest and Covington held three errors, while Riverside committed two errors.

Sophomore Ashton Skaggs went five innings on the mound and allowed just five hits and two runs to pick up the win. Carson Taylor threw the final two innings to pick up the save,. He allowed no hits and walked just one batter in his two innings.

Grant Blore led the Buccs at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Tayler Jay drove in two runs on a hit, while Carter Owens and Tanner Palsgrove connected on hits.

Next up for the Buccs is a home contest against Miami East on Thursday.
