DEGRAFF – Covington had a golden opportunity to pick up their third overall win of the season and the first win in the TRC, but a big second half by Riverside led to a 59-51 defeat for the Buccaneers.

The Buccs started out slow and trailed 9-4 early in the game, but a gritty effort rallied the team to tie the score at 11-11 at the end of the first.

Unfortunately, junior Gunner Kimmel was forced to the bench after picking up a couple of fouls. This gave Riverside an advantage on the glass over the remainder of the first half.

Fortunately for the Buccaneers, Riverside struggled dropping in second and third shot opportunities and Covington was able to capitalize by taking a 25-19 lead at the break.

Riverside caught fire in the third by scoring 21 points in the frame – 12 of those points coming of off four treys by Gavin Orsborne, who lead all scorers with a game-high 19 points.

Still, the Buccaneers were able to stay in contention by scoring 16 points in the third thanks to a ten-point effort by Bryson Hite, who finished with 16 points on the night.

But the momentum Riverside gained in the third carried into the fourth as the Pirates outscored Covington 19-11 down the stretch.

For Covington, Brogen Miller matched Bryson Hite with 16 points to lead the Buccaneers in scoring. Britton Miller scored 10 points and the rest of the roster accounted for nine points on the night.

The loss drops Covington’s record to 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the TRC. The Buccaneers look to rebound tomorrow at Fairlawn.
