HOUSTON – The Covington Buccaneers came away with a 44-38 win at Houston on Saturday to improve their overall record to 4-10.
In what was a tight game throughout, the score was deadlocked at 12-12 after one and Houston took a 23-21 lead at the break. The Buccaneers responded in the second half by taking a 32-31 lead after three and then closed out the contest by outscoring Houston 12-9 in the final frame.
One issue for the Buccaneers was the 19 turnovers committed on the night. Fortunately Covington was able to make up for the miscues with a solid defensive effort and hitting clutch shots in key moments.
Brogen Angle led the Buccs with a game-high 17 points – 15 coming on five treys. Britton Miller finished with 10 points, while Bryson Hite had 8, Tanner Palsgrove scored 7 and Gunner Kimmel contributed with 3 points.
Covington converted on 3 of 6 from the free throw line, while Houston made 2 of 7 attempts.
The Buccaneers host Ansonia on Tuesday in another non-conference game.
