COVINGTON – A balanced scoring effort where four Buccaneers reached double digits in point totals led to the first win of the season against Mississinawa Valley on Saturday by the score of 59-44.
The Buccaneers started out on fire from behind the three-point line as they knocked down four treys in the first quarter to spark a 16-6 lead after one.
Another trey by Tanner Palsgrove was knocked down in the second period, but Covington went inside to push the lead to 34-18 at the break. Palsgrove and Connor Humphrey accounted for 10 of the 18 points scored in the frame, while Brogen Miller connected on a pair of buckets. Bryson Hite and Britton Miller also scored baskets in the second.
Mississinawa Valley battled back in the third, but two three pointers by Gunner Kimmel and Bryson Hite, along with buckets by Hite and Palsgrove kept the Buccaneers in control 44-33 heading into the final period.
The Buccaneers finished strong in the fourth with 15 points on three baskets by Britton Miller, two free throws and two buckets by Bryson Hite and a trey by Brogen Angle. The end result was a 15-point win for the Buccs as they improve to 1-3 on the season.
Bryson Hite led Covington with a game-high 16 points, while Britton Miller scored 13 and the duo of Brogen Angle and Tanner Palsgrove dropped in 10 points each.
Th Buccs travel to Northridge on Tuesday.
