ARCANUM – The Covington Buccaneers lost to Arcanum 4-1 on Saturday, but the way the team is playing is setting the season up for potential success.

This was the fifth game so far this season and more often than not the Buccaneers held teams in enough limiting scoring outside of the game against Miami East. It was due to quality pitching and playing well enough defensively that held teams from scoring a lot of runs.

What has set the Buccaneers back in two close losses to St. Henry and Arcanum were limiting opportunities to take advantage at the plate. Fortunately that portion of the game will proceed to a higher level throughout more games.

The Buccaneers only managed three hits against Arcanum, which were accomplished by Gunner Uderman, Hunter McMillion, and Brairen Denson. This led to one run in the top of the fourth inning, the only run scored by the Buccaneers.

Arcanum was able to score four runs throughout the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, which led to the 4-1 loss for the Buccs.

The lone senior on the team, Caleb Smith, pitched very well as he was on the mound throughout the entire game. He allowed just two earned runs on six hits and struck out four batters. He also only allowed just one walk.
