COVINGTON – Beck Wilson, a Covington senior track and cross country athlete, committed to extend his athletic career and educational opportunities at Indiana University East, which is located in Richmond, Indiana.

“IU is a close school (to his home in Covington) with a running program,” said Wilson on why he chose his future at IU East. “I also thought about Wright State and Ohio Northern, but I feel IU East is the right place for me.”

Beck, who is the son of Dwayne and Kay Ann Wilson, had ran cross country and track throughout his entire athletic career in Covington and has personal goals set at the collegiate level.

“I’m hoping to run mid-distance to long distance – 800 meters and up in track,” he said. “In cross country it’s about five miles, so I like distance running. My goals are to get faster every year, finish in the top ten on the team, and hopefully got to nationals.”

In order to set himself up for ideal shape heading into college, Beck has plans to prepare himself for success through training methods.

“I plan on putting in a lot of miles this summer,” continued Beck. “Also, my college coach has a good training program and that’s what I’ll do once I get there.”

His future coach is Cam Tiberg at IU East.

“He is involved in both cross country and track, mostly coaching in distance,” described Beck.

Beck has had success and improvement throughout high school due to hard work and a great coaching staff consisting of Josh Long, Libby Long and Zack Shilt, which led to him receiving an athletic scholarship at IU East.

He also has a future opportunity to accomplish another goal of receiving a Business Degree in academics.

“Academically, I’m working to become more educated in the business side so I have things set once I graduate from college,” he explained. “There is so much business knowledge I want to acquire so I’m set up good after college.”
