LEWISBURG – Covington dominated Tri-County North, which led to a 74-27 victory to improve its overall record to 8-10 with three games left in the regular season.

Granted, Tri-County North entered the contest with just one win on the season, but it isn’t about what the opposing team brings to the table. It’s about how well the Buccs perform regardless of the circumstances.

“Great team win,” said Covington coach Logan Carey. “We accomplished what we wanted to do tonight.”

What Covington accomplished was a total team effort. This was evident due to the balanced scoring across the board.

“Everybody came in and did their job,” praised Carey of his team. “With five seniors leaving us after this year, it’s nice to get some of the younger guys some varsity experience so their eyes aren’t so wide next year. We’re gonna need those guys to step up.”

Covington took control from the outset by starting out to a 25-10 lead after one and a 53-14 lead at the break.

The Buccs couldn’t rotate many younger players into the game until the fourth quarter due to those that played in the junior varsity contest, but fortunately Covington was able to pull many of the starters early in the second half.

The reason, the Buccaneers never dug themselves an early hole like they did last night in an unfortunate two-point loss at Lehman.

“It was nice to not have to dig out of a hole tonight,” Carey said. “The game is much easier when we dictate on the defensive end, and that leads to us scoring in transition.”

Overall, it was a complete team effort over four periods, which is something the Buccaneers need to build on down the stretch of the regular season and into the tournament.

Next up is a huge matchup at Riverside on Friday.
