COVINGTON – Covington’s cross country program hosted an annual invitational at the Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles Picnic Grounds on Saturday and the Buccaneers had an good morning.
What made the morning so enjoyable for community members who watched the athletes run was the outstanding finished by several runners.
Sophomore Alice Larson finished second in a very competitive girls meet as she ran a time of 20:34.7 in a course that had so much water on the ground due to the storm that had came through earlier in the morning.
Freshman Tessa Lyons finished fifth in the girls event with an impressive time of 22:12.6 and two more runners finished in the top 25 as freshman Natalie Parke finished 17th and senior Lucy Welbon finished 25th. Unfortunately the Lady Buccs didn’t receive a completed team score due to only having four runners.
The high school boys finished 6th out of 13 teams with 147 team points. Two Buccaneers finished in the top 25 as senior Kent Welborn finished 14th with the time of 18:35.6 and junior Wyatt Pierce finished 19th with a time of 19:24.1.
Additional highlights happened in the junior high meet as all four Lady Buccs finished in the top 25. Ivy Long won the girls meet in the time of 12:56.0, while Elora Deaton finished 13th (15:20.6), Alison Herron 15th (15:32.0), and Ruth Welborn 17th (15:42.2).
For the junior high boys, Levi Hartwig finished 15th in the time of 12:34.8 in the boys meet.
The next meet is scheduled at Piqua next Saturday at 8:00PM.
